I spent a weekend in the mountains with my sister and her friend, both who have Down's Syndrome, surrounded by the glorious natural wonder of trees in ever changing colors, fresh air, and the purity of people with difference typically labeled as disabilities, disadvantages, handicaps, diagnosis, etc. many times over.
Regardless, let me explain that this was an annual event for people with special needs, of which there were about 200, in addition to the teachers, chaperone's, family members, and event administrators. It was amazing. The words spoken, sung, signed, held by these people, somehow seemed to glow with love, purity and such sincerity - I was emotionally and spiritually overwhelmed. It suddenly placed an ember of sparks for a desire to figure out if there were other places locally available with special needs ministries and the research led me to find out there were few and far between.
One of the students, a lady who was of shorter stature then average with bright beautiful hair, had such spunk and protective personality she sung a song 'Little Is Much When God is In It' in such a way that the audience couldn't help but feel God spoken in each word. The chorus below:
Little is much when God is in it!
Labor not for wealth or fame.
There's a crown and you can win it,
If you go in Jesus' Name.
Made me wonder can we do something like this not only for my sister, her friends, but for our community, for those family's that don't have a place to go to worship God. Maybe?
